We do not currently hold any patients’ referral information. Patients whose referrals will be transferred to GNRSS will receive a letter from their current Adult Gender Clinic explaining what will happen next.

Once GNRSS receives a patient’s referral information, a letter will be sent to both the patient and their GP to confirm that the referral is now held on the national waiting list. This letter will include confirmation of the patient’s referral date, which will remain the same as the original date the referral was received by the Adult Gender Clinic, along with an accompanying information pack.

When GNRSS starts to receive the referrals, we will keep the website updated with information, and frequently asked questions in a FAQ section.

We recognise that uncertainty about next steps can be unsettling. Until a patient’s referral has been received by GNRSS, we are unable to confirm whether they are on an Adult Gender Clinic waiting list or the national waiting list. As a result, we are currently unable to provide information beyond that available in the FAQ section, which is in development.

What happens next?

Once GNRSS have received a summary of waiting list information, we will validate each patient against the NHS Spine to check for any changes to patient’s name and address using the NHS number on the referral to the Adult Gender Clinic. We will then ask the Clinic to send a copy of the referral documentation. Whilst we are waiting for this information, we will send an acknowledgement letter to the patient and the GP, along with an Information pack and Gender Experience Summary (GES). We ask that the GES is updated with current information and returned to us by the patient as this will be kept with the referral information.

There will be regular points of contact with the patient to check that they still wish to be seen and check that they have not changed any of their details.

When a patient gets closer to the top of the waiting list, we will send out another GES form so that the patient can update any changes which will go with the referral documentation to the Adult Gender Service.

There will be a process for any patients who we cannot trace, and this process will be explained on the FAQ page of the website. It is important that patients check the website for updates and information as this will be the source of answers. Obviously if there is a question that does not have an answer in the FAQs then patients can email us or call.

Our email address is agem.agsquery@nhs.net or call 0300 131 6775. Please note the team will only be able to answer questions already provided on the FAQs or the process described above

We are unable to offer clinical advice and if support and advice is required, please contact your GP or other local NHS services.
